If starring in an Oliver Stone movie about the life of Edward Snowden does anything, it’s remind you that very little is confidential these days.
“Privacy isn’t a human right anymore—it’s a privilege,” says Shailene Woodley, who plays Snowden’s girlfriend Lindsay Mills in Stone’s biopic.
Woodley’s Snowden co-star adds that while our privacy can be violated, Americans also have the ability to hold the government accountable when it comes to protecting people’s personal information.
“Not everyone everywhere has that privilege,” says Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays the titular character. “The decisions we make now, us as a generation, are going to cascade and have rippling effects moving into the future for what this technology is to us.”
See what else Woodley and Gordon-Levitt have to say about privacy in the video above.
